Considering an open land map
Civilizations I selected can go to Imperial Age AND have access to a great military combo very fast:
- Aztecs have a great economy and Elite Eagle Warrior is researched in 50 seconds only.
All military (incl. War Ships, Monks) are created 15% faster.
- Byzantines have a 33% cheaper Imperial, fully upgraded Arbalests, transition from Battering to Siege Ram takes 125 seconds. Gunpowder might also be on the cards, Chemistry is researched in 100 seconds.
- Mayans recieve a solid economy bonus, EEW is researched fast and they have exceptional Eagles.
- Turks villagers mine gold 15% faster, meaning that 7 Turk gold miners is the equivalent of 8.
They have immediate access to Gunpowder, meaning Hand Cannoneers and Bombard Cannons can be produced straight hitting Imperial.
- Vikings have the best economy, fully upgraded Arbalests and Siege Rams are available to their arsenal.
What are your expert opinions on that matter? Which civ is the finest, the devastating-medieval-****ing-deal in the very first minutes of Imperial?
