Premise: Fast Feudal, then ramming as many spearman down the enemy as possible.
Why Goths?
Every bonus is applicable to this rush. Infantry cost 33% less the most obvious one. But the attack bonus is also useful. If your opponent is not playing huns you can demolish outlying houses in small time with many Gothic spearman. They will also be useful in taking down mlitary buildings or markets. The Hunting bonuses can help give you a faster feudal, but I'm not good enough to write up a build order. Look at my rate, dog. I suck.
Why Spearman
The Gothic spearman is the cheapest unit in the game. You get 5 for 115 food and 85 wood, in the same time anyone else (excluding Byz) gets 4 for 140 food and 100 wood. >implying that's not a bargain.
>But hurr dey are so weak
Bullshit. Takes down arguably the mostly costly unit (scouts-which are a n00b favourite). With massed spearman you can divide your attack and cause HighAnxiety for your opponent. The game will come down to 1v1s as you shift your forces away from his main units. So what are spearman weak against?
>muh militia
>implying you can mass more militia than my spears
Slowest unit in feudal age. Very costly and wouldn't even give a celt milita a chance in a footrace with a spearman.
>muh microed skirms
>implying you can exist off food alone.
Only massed skirms will do any real damage to spearmen. Otherwise they're just annoying. Chances are, he's going to need to keep them near his TC so his food supply is the only thing that's not vulnerable.
>MUH RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS (ARCHERS)
You are winning if your opponent didn't have Archers in mind and switches to them. It costs the same wood for the first Archery range as it does for 2 barracks. He also has to spend wood on a mining camp. They are also gold expensive and still cost more wood than your spearmen.. There's a good chance you've had the jump on him and been able to attack first (providing no drush), so wall up your own town. If his Archers are inside your base they are going to do a hell of a lot more damage than your spearman are. Keep calm, stay on the offensive and try to tower off his gold and stone. Castle up and continue to create spearmen in the barracks then pump out some mangs to take care of those archers.
UPGRADES
I always choose Forging first up although this strat does not set out to kill many villagers.
HOW 2 PLAY
You need to turn this game on its head. It needs to become a DCS (Dour colourless struggle). Send 5 Spearmen in (number dat **** dog 8-) ) and see where he at. Go straight for his wood and send your next 5 looking around his Gold. Then all chaos is going to break loose once you got your third barracks up. Send wave after wave of 5 spearmen into his gold and wood. Rape any villager who is bold enough to build a farm too far from TC. If he towers up fight fire with fire and tower his stone. Never let there be one moment in the game where his base isn't under some kind of pressure. Unless you are ******ed enough to let all your spearmen die to TC fire, you are always winning no matter what. Even if you feel like you're doing minimal damage your opponent has been constantly distracted while you're having fun. Whatever he has to produce to counter your units are going to cost approx 3 times the resource value. Then castle up and do whatever you want it'll probably be better than what I do.
This strategy will always win in a very slow grind. In my experience, the opponent always seems to think he has a chance. In my opinion, this is because people underestimate the spearman. It doesn't have enough attacking power to do any real damage to an economy and is virtually weak against everything except cavalry. I see this weakness as a strength. It deters your opponent from switching to knights until he can mass enough ranged units. If you have castled, you can make mangonels to deal with ranged.
Cav Archers are going to be a significantly harder proposition if you have only pikes. In this case I would probably build a few knights of my own.
Testimonials
"I not think you are good player, but very smart attack" - Anon
"WTF" - Anon after I beat him with it
"?????" - Anon when he realised I was just going to continually mass spears while he was towering up and building archers (I won)
"11 noob" Anon I beat during an attack
"your not better than me, u just play a weird strat" - GLOTTONY, THE ONLY PLAYER I WILL DISHONOUR BY MENTIONING HIM IN THIS TESTIMONIAL. SERIOUSLY, YOU STILL THINK YOU CAN BEAT ME? I THRASHED YOU 5 TIMES USING THE SAME SPEARMAN RUSH. I EVEN BEAT YOU WITH MONGOLS AND LET YOU STEAL MY BOAR. YOU ARE NOT A BETTER PLAYER THAN ME AND ARE A VERY JEALOUS AND SPITEFUL PERSON.
