Land Nomad
Chinese war. Tremendous display of map control from Tim as he is able to suppress Jordan into an area that lacks gold piles. The single gold pile that Jordan could draw from faced a Castle Push by Tim while the rest of the choke-points of the map were secured with stone walls and buildings.
Baltic
Huns war. Tim elects to forward on the East edge of Jordan's base, while Jordan takes the middle sea and defends his base with walls and a tower. Tim responds by making galleys to raid Jordan's fishing economy. Jordan takes absolute control of the sea from there, and uses it to transport his military to Tim's base to raid, bypassing Tim's stone walls. Tim realizes his economy is too far behind Jordan's and resigns.
Summary:
The draw gives each player 1 point in the standings. 7/8 players in the tourney are separated by a point or tied exiting play in Round 4.
Ming vs dogao 2-0
Regicide Fortress 1
Mayans war. dogao has command of most of the early attacking, but a battle involving a mangonel leaves him taking heavy losses as Ming reaches Imperial Age. Ming never gives up control of game from that point.
Regicide Fortress 2
Interesting that each player had Regicide Fortress planned for the other! In a rematch of game 1, dogao masses a large Plumed Archer army in Castle Age, while Ming opts for a 4-TC boom. Despite the difference in strategies, they both reach Imperial age at a somewhat similar time, with a slight edge going to Ming. Yet again, Ming takes control in the initial Imperial Age battle and does not give up control.
Summary:
Ming scoops the three points and vaults to a tie for 2nd place. dogao stays put at 4 points and is currently in a tie for 3rd.
TheViper vs Chris 1-1
Ghost Lake
Mayans war. Both players Drush and make cross bows giving little advantage either way, although the fighting is taking place in Viper's base. The recorded game drops around 30 minutes. The extra gold piles on the map are near Chris's base, and as the game goes in to the late stages, they help favor Chris in the end. He wins an hour+ long match, taking the first game from Viper in the tourney.
Yucatan
Mongols war! Chris drushes while viper does a fast Castle, reaching in 14:34, while Chris isn't much slower at 15:12. Viper booms while Chris makes x-bows, transporting them across the river to raid Viper with an element of surprise. Chris loses a forward built on Viper's land, and reacts by taking control of a long river through the middle of the map, as he must know Viper has spent more time building an economy than him. The war between these players rages into post-Imp, and Viper is the beneficiary of the random map generator in this match, as 4/5 relics are able to be collected. Viper wins the battle of post-Imp power houses.
Summary:
Chris takes the first game from Viper in the tournament to remain in a tie for 2nd place. Viper has a 5 point lead with three rounds to play.
Feage vs Daut 2-0
Continental
Feage finds Daut's first four sheep faster than Daut does, and Daut responds with stealing a boar. Daut tries to go land in Fuedal Age as the water on his map is quite poor, but Feage is waiting for him. Daut resigns '17.
Land Nomad
Chinese war of villager battles, militia, walls, and gritty play. Feage is able to settle near food while Daut needs to look much farther for resources. Both players battle for the rest of the game in the Fuedal Age, with Feage having snuck a villager around the map to build archery ranges and barracks behind Daut's base, near his farms. Daut resigns '36.
Summary:
Feage takes the 3 points from the round, launching himself into the 4 way tie for 2nd place. Daut remains one point out of second.
With three weeks remaining, 7/8 players in the field are within a point of one another, making it near anyone's game save for one spot at the top. Although not mathematically certain to finish in the top spot right now, Viper has a commanding 5 point lead over the competition.
