I wonder if you made this topic to actually highlight the Kinect thing or to create another opportunity to bash the AoFE project. Half of your initial post is for the latter and you don't seem to take the trouble to actually deviate the topic to talking about the Kinect.
However, as far as I'm concerned, you have a serious double moral standard. Opportunism as you might want to call it. You have exactly no clue what is going on, you don't know who is making what and who is in contact with who. Do you really think we carried the project so far to not be in contact with any of the original developers to talk about copyright issues? Do you really think we would work on this project with so many people for quite a long time without making sure we don't have our backs covered? Your answer to the last questions is probably "yes", but the true answer is "no".
Also, if you're so concerned about legal issues, why don't you notify Voobly on the fact that they stripped down the CD-check from the original exe and freely distribute it on their site. Or not even to mention, the hack for widescreen and windowed mode that they pretty much sell. Yes, that's right, voobly is technically selling hacks, yet you don't seem to object? Or why don't you report the patches that are available for download here in the download section at aoczone? 50% of them are illegal as well.
And then there is AoFE. As said before, you don't know who is who in the story, and what is happening where. You just make blind assumptions, fueled by the fact that we like to seek attention for our project. We have a goal with this, and that goal just requires that we seek attention on what we're doing. Maybe you don't agree with that attitude, but it shouldn't hinder rational thought.
So in conclusion: we know damn well what we're doing. And we know damn well what's going on. And I don't blame you for not knowing everything that's going on, but I do blame you for all the wild assumptions you make to fire up your own personal story.
As said before, very few people know exactly what we're doing. Heck, even the beta team doesn't know what's fully going on. And that's cool, but I can guarantee (and I mean: guarantee) that none of them will get into trouble. I also think it's dangerous, and bluntly, also a waste of time to make assumptions. The screenshots and info that is put out in the public forums is just a hint. There's many conclusions to draw from it, but nothing to build a solid case from. Or any case whatsoever. It feels a bit like posting a picture of the Taj Mahal on the FB page. Some could interpret it as the new Indian wonder, others could see it as a hint that we would add an extra age to AoFE (since the Taj Mahal is outside AoE2's timeframe), others might think that we're about to host a LAN party in India, others might see the grave tomb as a symbol that Indians will be no longer in the game. But the truth might just be that I happened to go on a holiday to India and that I shared the picture to express my joy for adding the Indian civilization to AoFE. All assumptions, loosely based on shards of information that fly around over the internet.I did not know about voobly hacks.. I am glad you are thinking on lines of covering your back coz trust me you need to.. as for talking to folks like matt from ES goes he himself would be in trouble if he gets directly involved in the project coz he owns nothing in the project.. if you have missed it till now my only issue with the project is you are involving people when they do not have the slightest clue of the consequences... do one thing.. put a disclaimer that "what you are doing is illegal and feel free to be part of it" and then I will see how many sides with you.Or come here and tell me that what you are doing is not illegal..
I have made some assumptions true but its on the basis of information thrown out there for the world including that RE screen shot.. if you think you are creating content from scratch and not hacking in to the code then it would be awesome but well I know what you are doing... Seeking attention on original content is fine but well...
pitzaboy, are there anyone from microsoft still interested to patch aoc?
11 ya its the same thing as reporting someone for jaywalkingThe risk of him getting in any real trouble is minimal, no matter how absurd the US legal system is.
The fact that you're trying to get him in trouble by supposedly talking to Microsoft's lawyers about it (come on, surely they'd have something better to do?). I'm sure you could argue that you're trying to protect him by constantly warning him that what's he's doing is illegal, but ratting on him like you claim you are is just low. It's like reporting somebody for jaywalking.
