Of course they get HC in imp, but what is the best counter to pikies during castle age? Archers are fully upgradable until imp, but CA can keep up with the knights for raiding. What do yall think?
axeman :D
CA can be necessary in full imp wars for some civs,, eg. japanese ca for raiding, and 1v1 jap ca is exactly equal to hun ca, ofc they are more expensive and have less hp, but sometimes you need to get a unit that can move fast and raid trade lines, no matter what the cost.
Heavy cavalry archers in late imperial for raiding trade are a different story from cavalry archers in castle age. By late imperial, you probably have an economy to support tons of marauders, where in castle age they are usually too expensive to be worth it. I generally do cavalry archers only as Huns or occasionally Mongols. In imperial, I will do HCA with many more civs, especially Saracens.

why saracen?

Saracens are the only three civs with fully upgraded HCAs (Bloodlines, Thumb Ring, Husbandry, Parthian Tactics, Bracer, Ring Archer Armor and Ballistics). Turks (and Japanese in FE, surprisingly) are the other two, but you don't see Turks build em much cuz they have guns and a 20% production bonus for gunpowder at the very start of Imp. I guess it's easier to mass HCA than Mamelukes since they don't cost food and or require castles and roughly serve the same role minus the anti-cavalry bonus (trade killer + mobile ranged unit).
