Hi guys, just wanted to let you know about a tournament that AoC Realm (aocrealm.net)is hosting next month that is specifically geared towards RMers/CSers and getting people to try DM.
The tournament, first of all, will be a cash prize tournament with total cash prizes of at LEAST 800 USD. Yeah, I know that's not much compared to some of the ones you guys host, but we think we have a chance at getting over 1000 USD in donations and we are in talks with Voobly to get premium membership/shield prizes as well.
The tournament is scheduled to begin July 11th, although settings are not yet finalized so this date is not set in stone. Thus far, here's what we know: there will be two separate brackets at the outset of the tournament. One bracket will consist of RMers/CSers competing against each other, and the other will consist of DMers competing against one another. There will be two finalists in each bracket, making four finalists in total who will then be entered into the Final Four. At that stage, the four finalists (two RMers/CSers, two DMers) will compete against one another in Round Robin format to determine the champion. There will be prizes awarded to all four finalists for just making the Final Four.
Another key point is that there will be a number of different and unusual maps for DM played. Nomad and Migration are both going to be used, as well as [GA-DM], Gold Rush, and Oasis. The civs are still in the process of being finalized but needless to say just about every civilization will be incorporated at one point or another.
Anyways, if this sounds like something that may interest you, head over to AoC Realm to read more about it. www.aocrealm.net (hope it's OK I post that now that the air is clean between our two sites). Again, sign ups will open sometime next week and I'll make another post here when they do, just wanted to give you guys an initial heads up.
Lastly, while I know a lot of people just don't like DM, I would say to those of you who are on the fence or haven't really tried it before - it really is a fun gameplay. I have a ton of respect for what RMers do and how they play the game, just as I do DMers. I think this tournament could go a long way towards creating some crossover interest within the community, which can only help the overall AOC community in the long run! Anyways, hope you guys think about signing up and giving DM a try.
Thanks.
