I covered the Masters of Deathmatch Tourney a while back, some people were interested but I dont think they were interested enough to pick it up and start playing some.
I wonder y is it dying anyway
When you see voobly then its RM/CS lobby is filled with too much members but at same time DM have only 100s of players
I don't think that the behavior of some people(as mentioned in some post above iirc) is responsible for it.
again.. in bold "gamers will go where $$$$ are"
I never had problem finding DM games in GR but those are not high level games.
High level games need dedicated players and why would they waste time in DM when they can learn RM and participate in tourneys.
for your bold line (:P)
is there any money in CS?
I dont remember the last time i have seen any money tourney in it , the voobly medals/membership ones but no $$$ tourney but you can see the number of players in it is overwhelming compared to DM
As star said the way to get players back to Dm is tornys in there if the DM players here unite then we might stand a little chance to get voobly's attention
Imo one of the biggest problem is that maybe dm is the most difficult game with the least player. In CS in most of them games u only have to control unit. Rm is also very difficult in some way but there any levels of player u can compete with! In DM there are no many ppl and when a newbie comes most of the times he will be kicked as he is zero game (it is also coz of the lot of smurfs). And if they not kicked as the game started in Post-Imp and speed is fast they are just rushed in 1 min and maybe the most of them just give up and stop playing dm after a few matches. So it is also the attitude which can be a problem. I think we can make some process if the dm community would be more helpful with each other. For example when a newbie come most of the times 1600+ players just steal their points. We should stop that! We should offer them to play some unrated and even an 1700+ player can help him to get a bit better and later some experts can help if he still wants to get better! There are still some players who are helpful and want a good dm community even if they have to sacrifice some of theirs time!
So I just want to encourage every1 who would like to start dm! Come and if u rly want u can find the right man who will help u! U can also look for me my name is AoM92 and i am almost everytime available. I can also give some tips even i am just 1600+!
On the other hand any kinds of league or tourney would be good!
And also some advertise to DM.
Great to see another player looking to help make DM active again hope me and you can work together to help the DM side of things even tho i am a noob lol on voobly i am raven1s
Or if you are too scared to play in voobly you are always welcome to try your hand in GR
Its always best to watch some recorded games and read some DM articles before beginning to play online.
aocrealm.net has some excellent recs and articles which are very useful for the new comers.
While I was a bit bored, I came across this conversation regarding the DM revival, and I am glad to see you guys putting forth such an effort. As you guys know, this is an extremely hard task to accomplish, given the disdainful attitude that many RMers tend to put upon us DMers, as well as our relatively small community.
In all reality, DM does take a significant amount of skill to play at the top level (which includes thousands of hours of playing), and like you all have said, is a crucial part of AoC! I have always loved DM from the day that I converted to it from RM back in like 2001, and doubt that I can go to RM. At the same time however, I do not wish to down talk RMers; in truth, at their highest level, their knowledge of the game is deeper than ours in DM (primarily to do with going through all the ages and technologies, as well as multiple maps). However, I believe the DM community would be fairly open to other maps if we were only to pursue them.
Anyways, lets keep this discussion alive! Also, I (and many of the QuEnDi team) are on board with attempting to revive DM to some degree. We had a recent discussion on our forum regarding this topic. Maybe it can start with gaining more respect from the RM community? Surely, they don't ALL think we are a huge lot of screaming losers over in DM lol.
nice to see this topic has gotten some views since the last time i checked it out.. hopefully dm does take a turn for greatness, but atm nobody knows, or nobody cares because nobody is listening... sadly
I remember WCl 1, lots of rmers started to try dm, and vice versa. Was one of the best times in aoc. all types of games being played with rmers & dmers was really great fun. Removing dm from WCL7 was ******ed.
