168k viewers on some french channel for aoe4
Yeah that french celebrity streamer streamed aoe4 for some time. He did that at launch as well and after that yesterday
168k viewers on some french channel for aoe4
Yep. But as soon as they stopped streaming the viewer numbers went back to 4k, even with Golden League happening concurrently. So it doesn't seem it brought a bunch of people over to the game
To "correct" you, they played aoe2 multiple times in 2020 and the peak was around 150k.When they played AoE2 in 2020, he peaked 45k viewers.
With such variety streamers you don't get new players/viewers right after the stream it's basically like any advertisement. So it doesn't seem it brought a bunch of people over to the game
Yes, you are right, I only checked entry for "Age of Empires II" and not for "Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition"To "correct" you, they played aoe2 multiple times in 2020 and the peak was around 150k.
Well I have seen many AOE4 games and I can definitely tell you that for me, this was one of the least entertaining games to watch from my point of view. The best kind of games are usually the ones played mostly in Feudal/Castle with action all over the place. Sadly there is a huge problem in late game, when the game is too often dominated by siege and fortifications. And you know, casters have to somewhat hype up even the worst games... Just wanted to say that this game was certainly not peak AOE4 but rather the opposite.Just gonna post briefly on my experience, for what it's worth. I played AoE when I was young, and got back to watching during Covid, and enjoyed it. So I stayed with it. The only reason I wanted to write something about AoE2 and AoE4 now is just that I watched the two first games between beastyqt and theviper.
Judging from the casters I was watching a great set, especially the over 1 hour game two that ended with beastyqt winning with a wonder... Viper didn't even notice, apparently. The game was stalled out, hiding behind stone walls and a wonder.
Now, I get that's the game, but I got to say, that was boring as hell. Really, such a static game, and if winning with a wonder in a game that is going nowhere, then I think the future for AoE4 is bleak. You kinda felt robbed with the game ending like that. It was way more fun watching the showmatch between Hera and Viper last year when building a wonder was a challenge.
So yeah, not gonna add more to the discussion, just my honest disappointment with the gameplay, and I really can't agree with lidakor that winning with a wonder in a game that no one can win, even after one hour (and it's not even BF) is great entertainment.
Well maybe game already changed a bit, but his experiance is quite similar to mine. Although I watched aoe4 only like first few tournaments, but some games seemed decent, with quite a lot of feudal action, although all games whenever got to castle age and to those dumb spring(?) fighting, they just kept doing them and engaging into fight, losing all those dumb siege and then going back again, like fighting once every 5minute and going back to do more siege, felt titanic to watch.Well I have seen many AOE4 games and I can definitely tell you that for me, this was one of the least entertaining games to watch from my point of view. since he is trying to be a big name in aoe4, because he couldnt do it in 2, he'll say only positive things of course, no matter how redicilous they sound. We will never know his real opinion about it.I really can't agree with lidakor that winning with a wonder in a game that no one can win, even after one hour (and it's not even BF) is great entertainment.
I my Opinion you got an unliky Set there. I enjoy watching AOE 4, but also not liked these Games. A Lot of it is because of the Map Choice. There are a handfull Maps in the Golden league Pool wich are quite campy and closed.Just gonna post briefly on my experience, for what it's worth. No wonder Lidakor makes such statement, He's sold his soul to AoE4 already.Just gonna post briefly on my experience, for what it's worth. I don't know if I would agree that Likador would only say positive things. The dude wrote a 10,000+ word opus on the state of the game and a lot of it was not positivesince he is trying to be a big name in aoe4, because he couldnt do it in 2, he'll say only positive things of course, no matter how redicilous they sound. He asked for it to be locked and removedThen the thread got locked unnecessarily
Oh they must have only complied with part of that request unless there was some time between the locked and removed. He asked for it to be locked and removed
I have heard of this streamer before. If he is the kind of streamer that has built his brand around himself rather than around a specific game there is a decent chance he could be exaggerating about something like this, but also a decent chance that he has cultivated the kind of community where this happening is very plausible. I'm not sure if he is known at all for childish toxic behavior because I know his name makes me think of xQc who certainly is 11peak aoe4
this goes on for a good eight minutes. (beastyqt)
don't get me wrong it's Microsoft and I watch the game here and there, so just having some light-hearted fun.
At least the scenery looks nice when it's done with everything blending in.
lol 4:40:00 talking about, I'm paraphrasing: toxicity, from the community on discord when he voiced his opinion about the game to the devs that he just wants to make the game worse.
I don't think we've ever been this mentally challenged. dear lord, what is brewing over there.
I mean we had hera with the walls thing but was he ever flamed for it? or maybe beastyqt is exaggerating.
I'd agree with this. It almost like a business decision that was taken by some players where they risk losing money for a potential big gains in the future. I don't know if and when they come back their audience will be the same (hera, kasva).I wish the prominent Aoe2 players who immediately jumped ship when Aoe4 dropped had the foresight to see how this would negatively impact their income potential overall. I said when Aoe4 came out that it would likely lead to a watered down Aoe competitive scene as a whole where the chances for players outside of the top-2 in each game would struggle to make a living or at least make as much money as they had over the past couple of years.
I'm not following the community on a day to day basis at the moment but the lack of S-tier events for Aoe2 makes me think my initial instinct was right. Am I saying these players had no right to go and play a new game? Of course not. Just wish there was more genuine thought put into the consequences of being dismissive (either in words or actions) of a game that had provided so much opportunity for so many people over the last 2-3 years and had tremendous positive momentum before Aoe4 came out. If you asked me in September/October what the outlook for Aoe2's competitive scene was over the next several years I would've been very enthusiastic.. now I honestly don't know. I have serious doubts, and it sucks to admit that.
tbf People said the exact same thing when AoE2 DE came out about DE vs Voobly and as we know now they were wrong, almost everyone moved to voobly and Tournaments happen on DE.I wish the prominent Aoe2 players who immediately jumped ship when Aoe4 dropped had the foresight to see how this would negatively impact their income potential overall. ...of a game that had provided so much opportunity for so many people over the last 2-3 years and had tremendous positive momentum before Aoe4 came out...
I strongly disagree. The reason why people stick to Aoe2 is simply because it is the best RTS game ever made. It is a timeless classic just like chess. The reason ppl stick to aoe2 is not only because of nostalgia, it's also because of the lack of new/better RTS games (obv. sadly aoe4 wasn't what ppl hoped for).
You make it sound like it's a fact. I think it's a speculation which could have some truth if not 100% truth. It's important to acknowledge and understand though that a lot of this momentum was most likely being funded because of AoE4's imminent release.
"most likely"Y

Valid point, that explains prize money distribution after release, also. It's important to acknowledge and understand though that a lot of this momentum was most likely being funded because of AoE4's imminent release.
