Hi i made a new Mod: CubeNothing.
It replaces everything with cubes which makes games more fair n square.
Since DE many people complaint about the new unit styles, here is your solution.
This will wastly improve your playing experience
I dont want to take the fun away. But its a data mod :/ Maybe suomi can uses in their training games though 11The worst part is that suomi will play with this from now on 11
Out of curiosity: Why is it a data mod? Isn't it also just replacing images?I dont want to take the fun away. But its a data mod :/ Maybe suomi can uses in their training games though 11
Good Question.Out of curiosity: Why is it a data mod? Isn't it also just replacing images?
Good Question.
1. Because I could rename the source file -> villiager_female_x1.smx becomes cube.smx this way noone can cheat by replacing it with other mods, also you dont need to change your real game settings and mods.
2. Most cubes are 1 frame. This makes the files very small and i can use the same cube.smx for all units.
If this would be a real skin for standard aoe2de i would replace every unit+frame+action with a new file. This should be easy but i read a mod can only have 500mb. This skin mod would easily be much bigger.
Bro consider making it as a visual mod and uploading it to something like Mega or Mediafire, as a data mod it's pretty much guaranteed to see 0 usage.Good Question.

im currently looking into it.Bro consider making it as a visual mod and uploading it to something like Mega or Mediafire, as a data mod it's pretty much guaranteed to see 0 usage.
I see, unfortunately I do not have experience with modding or making graphics so I don't think I can help out, if you manage to make it happen I'll definite be using it tho, thanks for replying bro.im currently looking into it.
but this has to challenges:
1. design
a) getting feedback about cube desgin
b) maybe someone can make them nice
c) 1 cube for all units or diffrent cubes based on some logic (eg. siege bigger cav bigger infantry, etc)
2. data
getting the data about the frames and angles of all units and buildings, so that you can automate most of the file creation
Really cool! With help from SE, i could figure out the Data problem.
I already converted all units (u_(...).smx files) into the the small cube. I tested it and can say its funny. I noticed the game takes much longer to start but starting 1v1 game was as fast as usual. All the units are 1.3gb which is half the space for the files.
I will continue this in the next days.
