Hi! You may have noticed that UP v1.5 has been at Beta R5 for a few months now. The reason is that this build has been relatively stable, which has provided an opportunity to look into core performance optimizations. For example, here is a save file for aoc on UP v1.5, which demonstrates a case where game performance collapses due to pathing lag. If you'd like to try it, just open the save on aoc v1.5 and watch as the units move. It's essentially unplayable on my computer, with scroll jumping and unit skipping. You may have seen similar behavior in some of your own games.
On the latest UP v1.5 private beta build, overall performance here is around 5x better than Beta R5, with critical sections of the code running up to 20x faster. This can be optimized even further, I think. In looking for additional improvements, it's important to know the general CPU feature level available in the community right now.
