Clicking outside is not a reliable method to check for holes

I've heard casters, especially T90 countless times trash on players in tournaments because they had a hole in their base, citing "you should always check for holes by clicking a unit outside". Well, have fun with that, because it seems to me, the only reliable method at this point is palisade scanning the entire wall multiple times.

Well, per the previous patch notes;
  • Villagers shall no longer go idle when gathering resources near walls.
  • Villagers no longer get stuck while gathering wood in certain circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue where Villagers sometimes weren’t going back to work properly.
nothing fundamental should have been changed about villager pathing.
To me it seems they have changed something more fundamental about pathing though, since there's other issues like vils walking all the way around an object without them being obstructed.
Also, my wood villagers get stuck all the time. (and walk to the tc when the lumbercamp is much closer)
Clear case of more problems introduced than solved.

@Tiekel This exact issue has been in the game for a long time. I am not that much of a waller myself so I experienced it while trying to go into the enemy base with military. Here are two examples from April and July 2021. Also I dont think that was in the game from launch. My guess would be it got implemented with the patches in early 2021 where in one patch units could walk through walls and then in the next patch when they fixed that units couldnt walk through walls anymore.

No, this is because you are spam-clicking it impatiently. Just right click outside once and wait a few seconds, eventually the villager will actually find any holes. When you spam-click like that it will just try and find a fast way to get directly from point A to point B and if it's obstructed then it will just get stuck for a couple of seconds before actually finding their way around.

No. If you would like I could record some proof that this is how it works, but this is my method for checking for holes and it works every time. The only time I have holes in my walls is when I didn't check

I was curious and tried using this method instead.

I have to say it's not reliable either, I played an arabia game where I clicked outside without clicking mutliple times, and the vil just didnt move, even though I had like 3 openings on the far side of my base. It probably gets less reliable with longer distance to the opening.

Would attach clip for reference but replays are broken again.

Yeah the pathing behavior has two modes, one for long and one for short (direct) distance
