My name is Mr. Anderson, I am the founder of the Civilization Cup. Some of you might know me as Pepsi or Osiris on voobly.com or battle.net. I started Civilization Cup 8 years ago now from a clan site I use to be in called SA-Clan, Superior Alliance. It has been 2 years now since the last CivCup was played, I think the last winner was RoR_BlinG. While the basic idea of the Civilization Cup has stayed the same their will be major differences in the coming season for those of you familiar with the league.
For those of you who are not familiar with civcup, The league was created to see what civilization would come out on top after playing every other civilization in the game. So there is never a Hun vs Hun as only 1 team or player is allowed the huns per season. ie* The Hun player or team would play all 17 other aoe civilizations twice, 1 game is home map and 1 game away map during the regular season, the top 8 players/teams would advance to playoffs where its best of 7 games. Sometimes we offered cash prizes from the money we made from advertisements, sometimes we didnt.
So while the idea and organization of the cup remains the same as stated above, some new additions are;
- salaries for players.
paid by the league and owners. there will also be a salary cap every season and a minimum starting salary. players can win money with no investment, just require skill and time.
- own/manage a team by purchasing it.
owner then has rights to team and can win or lose money depending on success of the team/players and league earnings. this means even average skilled players can participate and win money without having to win games themselves.
- shared league revenue, 4.5% of total league earnings per team, from advertisements and sponsors of the league.
you can view the daily and total league earnings to date at the bottom right of most league pages but not the forums or arcade. Our goal is to make the league profitable for everyone, including every team owner and player, even last place. we can achieve this by earning 450$ or more per season just through advertisements, sponsors and donations. at 250$ per season even the losing owners would get their money back. anything less then 250$ and the bottom 10 teams/owners will most likely lose money although this depends on the players salary per team. as of this post our site/league has earned 18$ in 3 days from random traffic while we work on the site.
- game of the week.
the top league game for the week as voted by users will be showcased in the game of the week page with detailed info and stats as well as a video player streaming the game from our site. ie* sc2 has loads of replays on youtube, this is essentially what we will be doing. of course the normal download file will be available as well. the teams, owners and players, showcased in each GoTW will receive a video cash bonus. which means all income from ads on the gotw page will be awarded to the specific teams.
any questions? i hope there are lots. i will try and update this as we move forward. we plan on opening a beta season for anyone to play for free by the end of this month. the beta season will have fake money to simulate what the real season will be like, although any real money earned through league revenue (advertisements) will be awarded to participants as stated above in the league revenue paragraph. if you managed to get through reading this whole post visit http://www.civcup.com to learn more.
