A taiwanese newspaper reported that the chinese communist party is "said to have noticed an authority vacuum in online multiplayer games". They specifically banned Animal crossing and some other games that allowed for international communication and interaction across borders.

That might not sound like a big deal since the internet access was already restricted in china, but the article hints that the online gaming community might now be in close focus of the chinese government. So because laws in china usually are only enforced when the governemt has an interest in it the chinese age of empires community might have managed to stay under the radar with its use of VPNs and its contact to the outside world. Now that online games are under stronger observation by the administrations I fear that might change.
There is a real possibilty that after the CCP made an example of online games the big streaming services where the well known chinese players are active will come under pressure.
