Am... you do know what means terrific?I don't understand what point you are trying to make, rmcoo?
Yeah just opened a bit of sites to read about that word too, but lets be honest, in internet everyone uses this word as describing something awful, so i didn't even know this can have a positive side, i guess mostly native english speakers knows the full meaning of that word.1. Very good or fine; splendid: a terrific tennis player.
2. Awesome; astounding: drove at a terrific rate of speed.
3. Causing terror or great fear; terrifying: a terrific wail.
4. Very bad or unpleasant; frightful: a terrific headache.

Not really, i looked into some translations to other languages i speak, and how they translate word terrific from english to that specific language, almost every translator translates it to something meaning *something disgusting horrible*Yeah just opened a bit of sites to read about that word too, but lets be honest, in internet everyone uses this word as describing something awful, so i didn't even know this can have a positive side, i guess mostly native english speakers knows the full meaning of that word.1. You may be confusing 'terrific' with 'terrible'
Overusing the word "rape" makes the stream look somewhat childish imo.
Yeah i understand, just i meant in *internet language* not in irl:P and in real life i obviously never speak english so i dont know it (I actually learnt english only from internet..Well for me I personally have nothing against a caster using rape, in a gaming context. They're many context in which an act of sexual violence is applied to gaming. i have heard people say i got gang banged in tg's when they are double teamed or w/e.
It dosen't bother me.
As to terrific. In modern day English it is used in a positive sense for example "that was a terrific dinner thank you."
that is a complement 100% of the time.
and definetly how JD meant it.
There is also a problem with it being used in lobby titles. There was a 1v1 game being hosted in MS a little while ago called '1rape1' and I've seen it used similarly before.

please dont become english teacher. as a native english speaker, this word is ONLY used positively, at least here in USA
This is actually the first time I'm reading the 3rd and 4th definitions, and I can say I've never heard terrific used that way in my life.
no need to get too sensitive there buddy, and terrific isn't correctly used that way ever, regardless of real life or internet :S

Sorry, but 'terrific' can most definitely be used in those other ways. It is not solely an adjective which is used to describe something positive.
As well as the positive meanings, there are two other ways that I can think of which it can be used:
1) To intensify meaning e.g. '2k5 TheViper gave 1k5 SMB a terrific thrashing in their bo21'. In this usage, 'terrific' emphasises just how emphatically I was beaten. In the example that the other poster gave, about the headache, 'terrific' is used to emphasise how bad a headache it was. 'Terrific' can be used as an intensifier for both very positive and very negative things.
2) To describe something that arouses terror. This usage is more archaic, but you will find it in lots of old English literature, especially in the gothic genre. e.g. 'I trembled at the terrific sight of 60 paladins crossing the map towards my base whilst I was still in the Dark Age' In this case, seeing the 60 paladins creates terror in me and the experience can therefore be described as 'terrific'.
how about it bothers other people? It dosen't bother me.
What can you do? Somewhere along the line it happened that one may refer to 'niggers','faggots' and gloat about 'raping' people without fear of reprisals as its ok because it's just 'gaming culture'. I accept the point that the term at hand is meant to be 'domination' but it is still amounts to the normalisation and trivialisation of sexual violence. There's nothing to be done except for requesting casters and gamers to be less offensive and to consider men and women who feel visceral hatred towards the term. Unlikely to happen on the Internet though.
Ultimately it won't be human decency that will change this norm but expediency. With the eventual acceptance and inevitable mass commodification of e-sports - the community spanning Voobly, Steam and Twitch (an Amazon acquisition incidentally) etc will all start to uphold certain standards simply because mainstream sponsors won't want the reputational risk attached to the racist, homophobic and misogynistic 'LOLZ' inherent to the Games Community.
