I know for me, if and when I play RM, it feels like it's standing still. To be a strong DMer, you have to manage very limited time with a lot of speed and precision. If you are already a very fast RM player, then DM (I imagine) feels like a simple extension of the same thing. However, it seems that there are plenty of strong RMers who are not fast players, and thus struggle in RM. for these players, they might find a dramatic skill increase in RM by becoming expert in DM.
Despite all of that, I have never put any real effort into RM (just as some of you have not for DM) and therefore I cannot say I am as informed regarding this issue as a player such as Viper, Riut, F1re or many more.
As an aside, Jidba! It's good to see you! Can we play some 1v1s?
*kneels* jidba vs viper! 14!! and.. i think that hasan has never played more than 2-5 DM games... and then he talks about DM as if he has been playing it forever(no offense)
Playing DM just before an RM game seemed to make my dark age play a little worse actually, because I carried over a bit of the "rash-play" into the dark ages which seemed to affect me a bit. Just with the dark age. However this was probably just a result of the habit.
The overall benefit is still an improved micro and imperial age play.
