Hey, I thought it would be cool to do that (build bridges / roads) in the regular game of AoE. I have read several articles saying 'It can't happen'. I was wondering why it can't happen. Are terrain and buildings completely independent of one another?
I've been brainstorming, and I came up with this:
Roads:
You build the roads, and once it's build the building is automatically destroyed, leaving a permanent layer on the map's terrain (similar to the way farms leave dead farms in their wake, only make it last forever).
Bridges:
use the docks template for bridges, only change the image to a bridge, and make it unable to build anything. then give it the same 'units can walk on this' property that farms have. Then you'd have to find a way to edit the terrain underneath it to put shallow water at the end of it to be able to build another bridge.
Any criticism to the idea, or helpful hints on how to make this happen would be great! As a disclaimer, my modding experience thus far has been downloading modding programs, so I've got a ways to go before making anything a reality.
