In Belgium Heineken is the same type of beer as Jupiler or Stella and almost everybody would always take those over a heineken.Heineken is 'fastfood' beer. It is really common here in Holland like Grolsch, Bavaria, Amstel etc. It is good but not exceptional... When your taste develops into 'a more mature one' and you want something more special, one start to appreciate to so called 'speciaal bier' with a more distinctive taste. It are most likely the more local breweries who make a beer with 6% to 9% alcohol. Belgium is renowned for their speciaal bieren like Chouffe, Sint Bernardus, Affligem, Leffe etc. Holland got some good ones aswell.
(0,25 euro for 33 cl)
You would never drink those beers, it's really bad! For carapils, nowhere one the cans you find where the beer is brewed. The idea about where carapils comes from other breweries where they make the better beers. The parts wich are still drinkable but arent good enought for those names are sold to carapils and they sell it then so cheap.(0,25 euro for 33 cl)
the absolute cheapest beer I can get here is like $1/ can (330ml) good stuff like heineken (funny right?) is like $2/can
btw 1 euro ~ 1.4 canadian $
you have no idea how good you guys have it in terms of beer
In Belgium Heineken is put down in the same category as Carapils (0,25 euro for 33 cl) and Kaiser (same price). Heineken just doenst compete with normal lagers like stella or jupiler. I got some Dutch friends who also agree with me, so it isnt just some Belgian thing!
EDIT: another very nice one!
Kwak: amber ale beer (8,4%) Also fun to drink!
I drank them all but nothing beats a chilled Heineken on a summer day
:|
i cant disagree more i fear :D
there are a lot of good and different beer, too much to name them all :?
+1
I can keep writing different beers wich are good!
One of the local pubs had around 250 different Belgian beers and like 50 international ones, always fun to go there! We just open the card on a random page, blind point at one and try it. If we already tried it or we know it, we choose another! The good ones we remember and drink again.
One that I forgot to mention in previous posts.
Keizer Karel: Blond beer (8,5%)
I only discoverd this recently, but great beer, would put that together with karmeliet and la chouffe.

I can't agree more with you. Whenever I drink Heineken I get an instant headache, 1 sip and boooom headache... I don't know what it is, I never get a headache in general not even from alcohol.
8-)
