Hey guys,
I'm super tired but wanted to do a quick write-up about the first day of the tournament before I head to bed. You can also leave any feedback here and I'll read it before the stream tomorrow.
Overall I feel like the stream was a success so far, we had some really entertaining games in the end and it was a pleasure to cast with Cysion and Resonance22 as always. We saw a good variety of maps and civ combinations and personally I think that the new civs are very unique, but also well balanced against each other (as seen by some of those crazy long non-mirror matches)
As for stability of the game, it sucked that spectating bugged out on us, we did a lot of testing and it was all good. I want to apologise if I offended anyone when I made the observation that the South American players were the guys who had the really high spiky ping that was causing the game to drop. What I observed was definitely the case, BUT, it was not their fault; RiuT has a great internet connection. The issue lay with a spectator bug that causes these lag spikes.
We decided to go on by having the players complete their games without a spectator and then sending us the recorded games. Honestly, this worked great, and once we removed the spectators from the game every single game was completed without any drops or unusual lags. It is unfortunate that the spectator feature was not working as intended, but I want to stress that the multiplayer in 5.0 (the version we played today) is really smooth and working great when no spectators are involved.
As for the other parts of the stream, I hope the production was up to scratch. I spent a lot of time working on the overlays and transitions and getting everything to run nicely. One thing that I hope you enjoyed was the analysis with Nilpferd, I don't think this has been done before and with a bit more polish I hope it will be a really good addition to future streams. Thanks to him for all his dedication and time for that, it's one of my favourite features of the stream.
Anyway, thanks for watching, thanks for the huge viewer counts, and we will see you all tomorrow for Day 2 with more exciting games & the Grand Finals!
