8 instances of aoe2 on a LAN. Client running custom aoe2 command interface that sends commands to the server. then the server passes it to every player. so everybody would only lag at their own rate..?
Most games nowadays don't use a player to player conection, each player connects to a server. This way a player only has lag if he is the one lagging, while all the other players aren't affected by it. However, you need servers somehow close to each player location and it's much more expensive.
Clear example, LOL, you have west-europe, east-europe, north-america, sout-america and so on servers. If you try to play with a far away server you will most likely have some lag, same way as australians lag on AoC for almost everyone else, not due to a bad conection, just due to the distance between ones and others.
