It's a simple fact that on many water maps where there's good fish and an easy wall (Baltic etc) you can probably foreshadow an entire 40 minutes of gameplay before the game has even begun. It's a one unit war where the loser of the water will most likely be the loser of the game due to the huge fish boom that the other player will do.
Sure it's a lot of fun to play water maps, but i think I can speak for myself and others when i say that they can be a little tedious to watch sometimes.
If you could change anything about water maps or the units available in the dock etc what would you change to make water maps more interesting?
I had a couple of ideas, one which is possible and one which is a dream.
1. Design maps that offer a viable alternative to fighting all out for the water, make water an option and if you don't go with water you'll still have a decent chance. For instance less fish in the water, more open areas so that it's not so easy to wall etc.
2. Have a second Feudal age war ship, similar to in AoE3. A ship that is more expensive but stronger which will add a whole new element to Feudal age fighting and early Castle too. Players would have to decide when to add these stronger units in and if they should save extra for them at the cost of having less galleys. Just a thought!
