Similar to SC 2's weekly. Here's why:
I don't know maybe I'm dreaming, but I don't see why this wouldn't be a huge success in AoE.
- Diversifies competitive scene: let's be honest, most tournaments don't appeal to everyone. MOA 7 is great for some, awful for others, and somewhere in between for most. Because they all have unique settings, the same could be said for any tournament. A weekly cup with different settings from the currently running tournament (i.e. open maps during MOA, closed maps during KOTD) would give people at least one day of competitive AoE to look forward to during periods where there's no tournament of interest to them
- Streaming content: It's excellent streaming content for both players and casters. Players can go full tryhard or meme their way to greatness. Casters can play the first few rounds and then cast the rest. It's good content all the way around.
- Competitive experience: offers aspiring pros the chance to play serious games against the best. They can do this on ladder too, but that's not the same. Players like Sebastian, Mihai, etc. would benefit massively from the experience gained here.
- Cost: this can be done on the cheap. For about the same cost as Delicious Whirled Cup, you could run a full year's worth of $450 weekly cups.
I don't know maybe I'm dreaming, but I don't see why this wouldn't be a huge success in AoE.
