Turks have awesome CA (even more so in AOFE) but they are too expensive as always, even with the gold gathering bonus. But if you had map control on gold rush, would you then go for CA, as gold would never be lacking?
Actually CA's problem goes beyond a high gold cost. Their overall cost will always be a problem. In normal AOC, CA are worth with huns, then in rare cases with mongols and post-imp turks/sara maybe.Turks have awesome CA (even more so in AOFE) but they are too expensive as always, even with the gold gathering bonus. crossbows are way too good against CA and tbh they can almost be considered a counter against them.. on the other hand fully upgraded knights are way too strong in castle ageIt's because crossbows do a way better job than CA for almost everything.
Personally I find the wood costing army to be a advantage only for a bit of the castle age, then it just becomes a liability. In late game you want to save wood, so if the option between paladins and ca arrives I know which I'd choose. Is it the fact that CA cost 70 gold per unit that puts people off using them unless they are playing as the Huns?
Knight/Cav/Pala cost 75 gold per unit and yet nobody seems to have a problem pumping them out when playing a almost anybody.
Plus CA only cost wood whereas the Knight/Cav/Pala line cost food, which requires wood to then be turned into food via farms. That's more expensive and time consuming than just chopping wood.
Or is it the fact that CA need more upgrades in order to make them good besides bloodlines, husbandry and the blacksmith upgrades? I'm thinking Thumb ring, University ---> Ballistics.
Or is it the fact that you need to mass more CA overall for them to be effective?
