Not quite! It's an inside joke from one of Resonance22's streams where a player named Laxatory was being salty, so the entire chat of 200+ started harassing him.
Rather tierd of this behavior. Alive will be banned from all tournaments I sponsor (and so will everyone else that act like this). Its annoying for the players. It screws tournament settings; streamers, viewers, admins...
Stupid and disrespectful behaviour by Alive,If you dont want to play in a tournament, dont agree to play it in the first place, waste of time and effort.you wont see me playing this guy anymore at least!
Oh come on.. Why bother to accept invite if you are going to give up in the middle. He knew, at the beginning that he has not much chances to get to top places. Such tournament are more about prestige and fun rather than getting some prizes. I hate how people always expect some prizes from tournaments. Bring back 2010 pls.Long post
I don't think it's entirely fair, if everyone jumps on Alive's back right now. And here is why:
In AoC, we don't have professional players who can make a living off playing this game / winning tournament prizes. Now, when people bring up the argument that Alive showed bad sportsmanship - granted. But I'm wondering: can we as community demand professionalism from players? A player of the Premier League team will still try perform well towards the end of the season, even if the outcome of the game won't change the team's standing dramatically. Why? a) he gets paid for it, b) he wants to get paid in the future. In amateur football you constantly have players not making it in time or simply teams dissolving every now and then.
That was the general part, now about this specific tournament: I was skeptical of the league setup from the first moment I heard about it. Just think for a moment: When a player understands that he can't make it to the top ranks anymore after a couple of rounds (i.e. win a cash prize), why should he actually care to schedule, practise or even show up? Sportsmanship? Sportsmanship is maybe the best thing one can get out of (E-)sports, don't get me wrong. Is everyone allowed to point their fingers at a player who doesn't show sportsmanship? Sure. Can the sponsors and organisers expect sportsmanship from the players (especially in an invitational event)? Definitely. Should the entire league system collapse, if the players towards the middle / end of the season decide to be bad sportsmen? Hell no! I was told that AWs were to be avoided at any costs and the prize distribution doesn't give incentives for the lower ranked players. Both terrible mistakes imho.
a) admins can (and usually will) always get into the position of having to call an AW regardless of the prize pool or the event setup.
b) with amateurs (non-professionals), the best thing sponsors can do is to give incentives. From Round 4 onwards, there should have been $10 (or w/e) prizes for the match winner to keep the lower ranked players aboard and respectively smaller placement prizes.
Both points combined led to what we've seen in the saiyanhood invitational. It's the same thing every season in rounds 5, 6, & 7 in the RTSL and even for the Top Experts League we had to substitute players 3 days before the announcement date.
Best thing we as a community can do now is learn from it (rather than blame everyone / quote captain hindsight). Ashby was given high responsibilities by the sponsor, still inexperienced as an admin and only God knows what made the players quit from the event. Bottom line is: the tournament setup, sponsors & admins need to be ready for such cases, as it's AoC we're talking about here.
We have zero professional players and few sponsors. Keep it that way and we will end up with none of them both.
Thats why i have to stay on the side of the sponsor.
Imagine AOC without Canary, Tyrant or the new sponsors...
