It will be dead on Steam absolutely. Considering it's only purpose is just to get some extra $ for MS. (like remaking Old movies in 3D)There is a lot riding on this release. If it's not successful, then Age of Empires likely dies forever with it.
umm.. as of now if voobly makes things 1 acc per player.. that solves evewry freakin problem.. and gives as an improved aoe2-hd
Just so you know, you're the reason many of us wanna leave voobly. You pretty much turned a free to play game into a pay to win game in your server. I wasn't going to play aoc without widescreen and many were in the same boat. So, no thanks Mr Dictator, try do more sensible things to redeem yourself to the crowd you so let down. Asking to give you more money isn't the way to go, just so you know.umm.. as of now if voobly makes things 1 acc per player.. that solves evewry freakin problem.. and gives as an improved aoe2-hd
The way steam is doing this is charging people $20 (?) for a copy of the game.... Voobly can do the same thing for a no smurf ladder as well (e.g.: pay $20 to be able to play on it), but I'm pretty sure people would trash us for doing that. Heck, I wouldn't even be against setting that up and just using 100% of the proceeds of "no smurf ladder" for tournaments prizes and such. But I'm sure we still get trashed. However, if there is significant community weight behind a request like this we would take it seriously.
People should stop ranting and trying to convince everyone AoCHD sucks because they can't afford the game.
If you can't afford something then that doesn't make it okay to steal it; entitlement is a bad trait and it seems prevalent everywhere.
I originally bought a copy of AOC for a mac many years ago.
Then bought another for a windows pc.
Bought another to replace the pc one when it got damaged.
Bought the steam version.
I thought buying a new copy every few years was just a way of life.
I've paid my money not even to reward the developers for the work done but for a chance to give this game a second chance. I find it reasonable and i would never spare 20$ for the hope to bring AOC back to live no matter how small the chances are.err0r said:It will be dead on Steam absolutely. AoE lived long after MS left it, and it will keep doing so. I appreciate the effort of the HD guys. But the User-Patch guys really did much more and without trying to rip ppl's balls off for $.
I don't really understand why you are trying to convert people to Steam...You guys are the sell outs here. Voobly/GR are the die hard fans.

Who said anything about stealing, I for one have bought many copies of the game over the years. What the previous comment was more about is those who cant afford to pay AGAIN for the steam version are not entitled to an opinion :S

I think the last thing me and many others were hoping for was this 'HD'. I mean, who plays this 14 year old game and actually cares about graphics? We were expecting multiplayer and stability changes and this is exactly all that failed in the stream. From such an old company you don't expect them to rush this patch like this, because it has these results. The program has clearly a lot of flaws, but hey, you can pre order it already because that is what matter$. I don't even want to go into discussing this HD lie. Everything looks completely equal except for the fire/farms which look ugly and unfitting, the trees that noone cares (most use pussywood) and the water that is meh. And I say this being able to afford the game.
Edit: and lol, paying for the sake of the game, that is just ridiculous. Better donate to some guy like cysion or the people doing the userpatch that clearly deserve it.
will you marry me?I have bought 6 copies of AOEHD on steam.. i will surely be gifting some of them to my old friends who have left AOC for other games..

How much shall we wager that you and all the other AOE2HD sucks people buy the steam version?
The games weren't played and we have 23 pages 1111, in the steam they might pretend to sell pussywood patch, become gray into black patch, pink patch, antisnow patch etc,etc or even worse become it like age of empires online if you want to become good you have to pay for using new civs, etc etc wich is evenw orse that voobly selling widescreen patch.
