I played AOC for the past 8 months minus the last 2 quite a bit. I got in close to 2k games and went from low 15xx to 1750 or so, but I got sick of it and decided to take a break. I started playing Diablo 2 because i always heard it was fun, and now I'm pretty much addicted to it... it's really fun.
The point of this post though is to say to all of you who are trying to build a gaming community like zeroempires, feage, dreams, etc that you are doing a great job. Even though D2 is still probably more popular that AoC, the community here is 10 times better than over there (in cyber space). Almost everything is abbreviated in d2 forums or chat in games, and it makes no sense until you play for a few weeks. Some of the people are nice enough to explain when they say 6ospb 160ed and you say "?". But most of them just flame you for being a newb.
The other terrible part about the D2 community is that there is nobody for the community to work with on the programming and infrastructure end. Blizzard is absolutely terrible, and if you play d2 and get realmed out a few times you will realize that they make no effort to help the actual players. They have a big bot flood problem, and to solve it they implemented a system that promotes really slow clicking and no item saving (items are what makes the game fun). Once you are realmed out it takes 12 hours before you can play again, and there is nobody to contact about it.
So to the guys who try and make this community work, keep it up, you are doing a great job.
