I was hoping for Persian and Viking campaigns (no, the ones in "battles" don't count), before new civs......well viper definitely doesn't represent typical aoe2 player. Most players still don't even play multiplayer. What else devs can provide to core playerbase if not DLCs? Patches rarely add any meaningful content. Typical AoeZone user's wishes for game is useless for them.
Two classic civs, without any dedicated campaigns to them after 20+ years. It's criminal.
And, people complaining do have a point here.
Yeah, vast majority of players are casuals and don't care. But I'd argue a lot of casuals watch the tournaments (esp big S tier ones), the pro scene is important for keeping the interest in the game high, generally speaking.
So, fixing some of the blatant issues should be important as well. Some of the broken stuff about archers have to be fixed, it's so basic.
