Same generation each time gets boring really fast (back woodlines, late game easy walling, etc.)
As perhaps sounds obvious, it is because the developers don't listen to or care about the playerbase.BTW, watching the Open Classic got me wondering why we are playing a map pool that usually has 2 or 3 maps no one wants to play...
People simply vote for those maps. Most maps are either an arabia, arena or nomad copy. Its not like alot of people really want to play the map they voted for but its the closest to their favorite maps. Its an excuse to play a lesser version of arabia/arena/nomad instead of the other 2 popular ones and their copies. Like this its just a popularity contest between those 3 camps. The devs then see alot of players voting for a certain map and think its actually what they want. The majority however would even dodge it if they could.As someone mentioned why not have two Arabia versions in the mappool? Even a more closed one? I think a vast majority of people would prefer to play a greener version of Arabia than Ghost Lake, Valley or any of the other Arabia clones. BTW, watching the Open Classic got me wondering why we are playing a map pool that usually has 2 or 3 maps no one wants to play... I would be happy/ok with a map pool that included Arabia, Atacama, Four Lakes, Baltic (or Islands), Hideout (or Fortress), Arena and Nomad and Arabia players would still get Arabia 90% of the times.
If that is the case changing the map gen seems like the wrong way to have solved the problem of people complaining about Arabia not being open enough.Sometimes it was a bit defensive, but that was because you can keep 10 archers out of your base with 10% built houses, it had nothing to do with the map gens.
I dunno if its different on other levels but I have won as much games with m@a as I have lost on the new ara. (19xx)I liked the previous version of Arabia. I feel like I could get in to do damage with Scouts, MAA or a drush, and sometimes my map was good enough to just open straight archers or drush FC. There was enough variability in maps. Sometimes it was a bit defensive, but that was because you can keep 10 archers out of your base with 10% built houses, it had nothing to do with the map gens.
Now on this Arabia I know that unless I'm a meso civ I'm going to be walling in my wood vills, walling in my berry vills, and making Scouts and Spears. Every game is Scouts and Spears. Unless you get the rare "good" map (back gold and back berries) in which case you can drush FC.
MAA and drush feel completely useless to me, but I don't know if anyone else is experiencing the same feelings?
As someone who enjoys playing both Arabias, I really hope they have include both the new Arabia and the previous Arabia generation in the map pool soon.As someone mentioned why not have two Arabia versions in the mappool? good strategies and good execution can lead to someone being able to make more units but you mean just mindless unit spam like late imperial age?good strategies and good execution, but just who makes more units... that's sad.
i am saying that someone that just goes for kts and siege every game no matter what gets usually more rewarded than a player playing xbows 3 tcs boom and plays the long game, while before that was still definitely an option, but was a bit easier to play as the boom/xbow guy... still.. it's not like it's impossible to play like that now.. it just feels like we are moving towards a gameplay that just tries to reward random heavy aggressionsgood strategies and good execution can lead to someone being able to make more units but you mean just mindless unit spam like late imperial age?
Haven't played THAT many games on new arabia but I had good success with m@a openings. Drush too, especially if I can take a scout player off berries early it's a huge blow to their eco. The only risk with m@a is that you tank your own eco since it usually has to be 1 lumber camp and no horse collar, whereas scout openings can do both 2nd LC and HC (usually). So m@a kinda has to be followed up with strong aggression now.I liked the previous version of Arabia. Maps in AoE are set rules for possible generations. Why not try and add the previous Arabia generation as a possible one to the current script? You would actually have to scout again how the map looks like (and not just to find your secondary gold) and you would automatically get more variation. One might even include one of the more closed arabia maps from previous iterations. If they can just completely replace one Arabia version with a different one and still call it Arabia, why not just combine multiple Arabia versions and all enable them for that one map?People simply vote for those maps. Because there are alot of people that dont want to play arabia 100 times in a row. With multiple versions of arabia in the pool you are forced to play it cause you cant ban them all. I think you missed the point, he was saying make an arabia versions map pack, not just have a ladder of 10 Arabias.Because there are alot of people that dont want to play arabia 100 times in a row. Exactly. I want ONE map called Arabia, where I don't know if I will have end up having three back woodlines, or front wood lines. Just the way I don't know if my berries will be foreward or to the back I don't want to know if Arabia will be the current DE generation, or the previous DE generation. Both generations (and maybe others too) should be possible without me being able to choose which one I get.I think you missed the point, he was saying make an arabia versions map pack, not just have a ladder of 10 Arabias.
@Snizl is that right?
