This is basically a game made so every 1500 who likes to hide in a wall and drink coffee can feel like a good player.
who's great idea was it to move all the wood, stone and gold in the game within 3 tiles of starting tc's and then placing that tc into the corner of the map? please please tell me, I don't wana hurt him I just wana talk.
is a game done for casuals, do not expect the maps will be done for any competitive purpose, i tried so hard to get KOTD3 map into the matchmaking so it help the tournament feedback and we get some more open map, and you can see, so adapt or leave the game, because ur frustration going to be hell.
We are in the world with Green Arabia, flat and wallable, remember those "noobio" loobys back in the days in voobly, now all is like that.

Additionally, on Voobly there was always the risk of people not wanting to play with you if you turned every map into Arena.
Or maybe True is right, and we should give DM a try. No walls there! The problem is that there's also not many lower-level DM players to play against - I get the impression the DM ladder is mostly made up of people that are very good at it already. Maybe players could organise a day sometime in the future to all queue up on DM instead of RM for a change?

I'm just an intermediate player so I don't always succeed in punishing walls, but there are many ways to do it.
I like the fact that Arabia is not all about Feudal Age even though there's quite a bit of action in it. I won and lost my share of games before Castle Age.
Walls have a drawback in cost and villager time. Granted it's not that much but it's relevant.
Also, if the opponent is walled too soon, their base has to be small, making it very vulnerable.
Comparisons to Arena are laughable, it's not even close.
This meta is absolutely fine, just because it's not feudal war it doesn't mean it ain't good, plenty of fight in open spaces for the duration of a match.

I have been playing for A LOT of years now, so I know how player-base in general felt about the meta during the years, at least in ARA and FR, which are the maps I mostly played.
In voobly people didn't like to wait 9-10 minutes for the first action, meaning Dark Age was already disliked by many people , as it feels like wasting time. But at least at min 10 you knew you could go with your first scouts, to micro a little, maybe go defensive when playing archers and then force a fight later. But microing army at min 10 was the relief of not doing anything for 9 minutes straight besides blindlessly copy a Build Order.
Now it's not min 10 anymore. When you get with your first scout to enemy's base he's already walled in with a fourth of the map. I have seen 1900 players who are absolutely HORRIBLE at microing army. This is because walls are OP. It's OP but let me also add that it's boring as F***. This is not Civilization, this is AoE, a REAL time strategy game. It's not supposed to give you 25 minutes of booming and thinking about what you're going to do. It's supposed to make you think while you play, and that means thinking about strategy while you micro, defend or attack, or get some Map-Control.
Honestly I feel like we don't have it anymore, and dumb people with a good BO who wall,end up winning games without strategy and without micro, just because of BO and Walls. And that honestly is very bad and it kills the joy of game I love.
I miss when there was only one dude from afghanistan who walled a lot, and he even had to write in his description in his room because everyone hated him, so he had to wait 2+ hours to get one ARA game from someone who didn't know him. I miss TheViper hating on Tim for walling Arabia in Ranked and tournament games. I miss when we as a community X'ed the wall of the wallers and said "Nice wall, dumbass" and retired and ignored them for life, so they didn't get any games. I miss when saying "Fcking waller" was a thing that could be said about someone specific and not about 99.99% of the community

Im 18xx and that is pretty much the meta, wall drush fc and go full hoang or just boom till imp. And then everyone is like arena is boring when they just make an arena game from arabia.
No, bring back Chinese skirm wars please.Having returned in the last week or two, I do have to say that arabia is too wallable. I don't think I've had a bad map in any 1v1 game, and maybe 1 out of 20 TG's.
Basically if I can't have a 30 minute feudal huns war, it's just not that fun to play for me. I'm sure others enjoy it, but it's just not arabia anymore.
