it is not.Is the beta already done??? Im out cuz holidays but can’t wait to give my opinion about DE2 so cant check steam.
I haven't looked at it too much, but I did buy it (again) on Steam, and I do think that it is better than the version from the Windows store, from the little I played around with it today. The Windows store version is a UWP application, which is a type of application that Steam does not support. And there are what I assume are several bugs/issues in the Windows Store version that resulted from this. For example, whenever you scroll your mouse to the top or bottom of the screen, a small dropdown box appears that opens a menu for you to exit the application. It can be quite distracting, especially if you click it accidentally. But it looks like this annoying box is not present on the Steam version.Kinda offtopic, but is there any benefit to having aoe:de on steam?
Is the steam-release of aoe:de similar to aoe2:de, that (from what I understood) you essentially just purchase it there, but won't use any service of steam, like the workshop or multiplayer (maybe only can see when your friends are playing it)?
Thanks for the detailed replyI haven't looked at it too much, but I did buy it (again) on Steam, and I do think that it is better than the version from the Windows store, from the little I played around with it today. I'm guessing they removed all of the UWP parts for the Steam version. The Steam version definitely has issues (e.g. the font on the menus is not sized properly, some of the text for different buttons spills beyond the buttons and overlaps, etc.), but overall, I would probably recommend buying the Steam version, were someone choosing between the two. It's rather disappointing that it was still released with these bugs, and I take the obvious menu issues as a bad sign for Aoe2 DE. These issues simply shouldn't appear in a game release.
There is still no modding or Steam workshop support. The only type of "mods" are custom scenarios that you download off of their website: https://www.ageofempires.com/mods
It certainly is not the same experience as the Steam workshop for HD, where you just click Subscribe. Here, you have to download the files and place them yourself into the correct folders in the game's files.
There is "crossplay" between the two platforms, but I haven't tried this out yet. There will also be "crossplay" for Aoe2 DE, but honestly that just sounds like a waste of development time for me. Might as well just release the game only on Steam, rather than trying to create features for a Windows Store version that few people will buy. They've confirmed there will be no Steam Workshop support for it, which is a big step backwards from the HD Edition.
The bottom line is: there are subtle differences between the two versions, and adding the Windows version to Steam and using crossplay is not the same thing as buying the actual Steam version.
As for Aoe2 DE, I doubt this game has been developed as a UWP application, so there shouldn't be similar bugs/issues depending on the version you purchase. But there may still be some subtle differences between the two, although we won't be able to say for certain what those are until the games are released.
dont pre purchase guys, as much as I love the game, this is not a fair business model
let's pray that de would be good enough that we wont be needing voobly. Will we be able to play it on voobly ? Is someone working like was done with wololokingdom ?
First of all, there is no bonus for people who pre purchase, so there isn't really a reason to.Why not pre purchase?
