How is the best way to go about this? I assume there are no methods that are free, so what is best?
I think he can upgrade without any bootable usb or dvd. Please try and get back here.If you have a 8+ GB USB pen drive then you can make a bootable windows 10 USB stick using Microsoft tool. Follow instructions below.
You can use windows without activation. For activation you would need to purchase a key obviously.

He can do a clean install as well without having to need to burn the iso. He gets 3 choices: Upgrade and keep files, Clean install and keep personal files, clean install and remove personal filesyes surely he can but a clean install in my view is much better.
Yeah I told you so and looks like someone downvoted me 111I downloaded the tool and clicked on upgrade to windows 10 now. It downloaded it and I could just use it, nowhere did I have to put a key or whatever anywhere and all my apps and settings were carried over.
You can't directly upgrade Enterprise 7 to Enterprise 10 though, right? You would need the win10 volume licence or something from what I read.Ok.. others might help you then, but I would simply upgrade for free any edition you have. e.g. you have Win 7 Pro, so upgrade it, it is supported by MS, just not advertised anymore. Isn't it better to have Pro than Education?
