When I first started playing aoc against real people, as opposed to comp, I would play 1v1 with a friend over LAN. One thing I would always do is wall off all the relics (we played many different maps, and we sucked), that way when i send my monk, i just had to delete the wall, thus preventing my opponent from getting it, and ensuring I would.
So, my quesiton is would this still be a valid tactic for 1v1 Arena. Of course, it would have to be used when you get a crappy monk civ, vs a decent monk civ. Also, the relics would have to be placed closer to opponent (otherwise you can just take them for yourself if they're close to your wall). I was thinking using +2 vils + loom for this. So for example, mine stone in dark with 1 extra miner, loom, go up at ~30 pop, then once feudal build M+blacksmith, and send two vils fwd to start walling relics. I will try this the first chance I get on a good map for this (hopefully whoever I'm against wont read this, 11).
My logic here is not so much to get the relics, so much as to surprise the enemy, and make them waste 175 wood on monestary, thereby taking resources away that couldve been used for an immediate 4th tc, and hopefully 200 gold for 2 monks wasted. Even if they decide to play offensively, and make a siege workshop, if they want the relics they'll have to take the time to move the siege there destroy the wall..etc thereby slowing their offence. If they just play offence, well at least I stopped them from getting the relics. I would only do this tactic if I were going for a boom. Anyway, I'll try it out, and hopefully what i said makes sense.
