I have been playing AoE for a long time in LAN games, but since I have switched to Win7 I have problems connecting.
I have tried with the following setup:
- PC1 & 2: Win7 64 bit
- PC3: WinXP
When I start a multiplayer game in either Win7 machine, none of the others can see it. When I start it on the WinXP, both can see it, but when trying to join I get after 15 seconds or so: "unable to join".
When adding a 4th WinXP pc, I can connect to PC3 no problems.
Some things I did:
- execute in XP compatibility mode, and run as administrator (both for the launcher and the exe)
- disable the antivirus real-time protection
- tried all combinations of hosting/joining on all PC's
Some info:
- I use a router for DHCP, all machines are on the same subnet (255.255.255.0) and ip range (192.168.1.x)
- I run the game from the launcher, all versions are in synch (2.2.)
- the firewall rules are adapted so that traffic is allowed (popup - clicked on "allow" and verified that the rule is in the firewall)
Any other suggestions?
I believe we had this problem sometimes too when we were all using XP, then usually one of the machines could host successfully the game. Now I cannot.
Thanks in advance!
