Hello, I'd like to talk about Turbo Random a little bit and see what you guys think to this idea. I was discussing with JorDan_23 about AoC as something that people like to watch and comparing the speed of AoC to that of SC2 and DotA2 etc.
We were thinking of how the game could be more entertaining to watch by being more fast paced but doing so without affecting too much overall for the players.
1) RM is never played on Fast speed in tournaments, but why is this? Well, Fast speed would be great if there was very little or no latency between players but unfortunately that's something that very little can be done about. Playing on fast speed hinders the players abilities to micro properly and causes more problems than it's worth.
2) Turbo RM was introduced to AoE in the Conquerors expansion and is very rarely ever used, the purpose of Turbo RM was to make aoe more fast paced without having to increase the game speed to fast. This is a great idea! But unfortunately Turbo RM isn't very popular, mostly due to the fact that it's a little too much. Turbo RM affects construction speed, production speed, villager gather speed and resource carry capacity by 2.5x. It's a little too much!
We proposed that instead of 2.5x faster how about 1.5x faster instead, a 50% increase in speed without speeding the game timer up to fast. We think it'd be an interesting experiment and could lead to some very interesting results; what do you think?
