I was thinking of how to design a Khmer faction for this game and I looked up some stuff online.

From what I gather, the Khmer relied heavily on numbers to win wars. They had sub par arms & armor. They also had excellent use of elephants and chariots. Their society had two winning traits: a climate with multiple harvests and a religious devotion to the king, often called the "Deva Raja" -- "God-King" in english. This all suggests that the Khmer should have a faction focused on advantages numbers, food production, and monks in AOK but with tech handicaps on unit quality.
Suggested Bonuses:
(In general should be about food proc, unit cheapness, monk quality).
- +5% Food prod per age
- -5% infantry, foot archer, light cav cost per age.
- -50% monastery research cost
- TEAM BONUS: Monks covert 15% faster
Suggested Unique Units:
- Sacred Elephant: Monk mounted on elephant that can heal, convert, and carry relics. 10% faster conversion and recharge rate than normal monk. Like persian elephant, should be both punishingly powerful and punishingly expensive.
-Charioteer: Slower, more durable, less expensive, less attack than knight. (defensive knight)
Suggested Unique Techs:
-Multiple Harvests: Farms get +200 food. (could be modified into a different food benefit)
-Deva Raja: Sacred Elephants convert 50% faster and have 50% more faith (yes, raises faith ceiling up to 150% faith).
Suggested Forbidden Techs and Units:
-Inf: TH Sword, Champ, Halb
-Archers: Arbalest, Hand Cannoneer
-Ships: Cannon Galleons, Shipwright
-University: Chem, Siege Eng.
-Siege Workshop: Bombard, SgOnager, HScorp, SgRam
-Cav: Hussar, Cavalier, Paladin, All Camels Banned
They will have great monks, great food prod, good heavy cav from chariots, and good horse archers, skirms, and light cav are not the best but can be spammed easily with extra food.
If anybody more familiar with Khmer history would make some suggestions I would be very thankful. However, I think I have nailed down most of how to design this civ.
