For the next 1v1 tournament I propose a reversed tournament set up: a group stage, followed by a bracket stage, just like the Champions League.
So in round 1 there would be 32 groups of 4 players (assuming 128 participants). Numbers 1 of each group would face a number 2 of another group in round 2 (starting the knock-out system).
Arguments:
1. Every participant will play at least a few more matches and won't be out of the tournament after just 2 games. This will give many more players a real tournament feeling.
2. The tournament will be more exciting, as surprise scores are more likely during later rounds. This will make every match more fun to watch and will therefore attract more viewers and make AoC more popular.
3. Every player will have the feeling they may become the next champion.
4. Although this means more risk for the top expert players, they are the ones who will be able to deal with this stress and pressure better than anyone else. If tournaments like the Champions League choose for this system, there must be a good reason for it.
