I reckon if the fire rate would be increased slightly they would be more viable, at this stage i think they are nothing more than rams that have attack damage against units as well as buildings. Best to create a mix of galleys and turtle ships for now :D
Well I've been thinking about it. I just don't see them being useful in 1v1 under any conditions due to prize. The game went so well for me though (good fish, deer, safe resources, 4 relics, the strategy LetsImprove did was quite good for me aswell with different strategies he could destroy me before reaching imperial), I had solid boom - everything went better than I could hope for. Doing castle to protect my gold and docks was necessary anyway. But massing turtles is just impossible - you get 12 000 gold for mining all gold on your island. Just advancing into castle, imperial, chemistry, ballistics, elite upgrade, the dock upgrades (all absolute must for korea) cost 3025 gold, so you have 9k gold left to produce turtles = 45 turtle ships for all gold on your island compared to saracens - 2375 gold for all upgrades so they have 9625 gold left = 320 galleons. Because of stupid 12 range monks I had to add galleons with all upgrades aswell, I was selling all game, 4 relics, mining mini gold on extra islands aswell, still I was mainly lacking gold..
I think turtles only usage is on maps like baltic/ancient lake/TI when a team has solid trade running + boom going and they want to retake the water, combo galleons + massed turtles on water it really unstoppable, but you need to have the res for that which you won't ever have in 1v1, same as you won't ever take cost efficient fight with turtles and that's only vs galleons. Fast fire ships, heavy demo ships and longboats are way better and more cost effective vs turtles than galleons.
