So it seems that in the next few months aoc (hd) could end up being played on steam. Since i know nothing about steam maybe a few people can answer some questions for me.
- it looks like steam's matchmaking abilities will cut down on wait times for games, which is nice but will it still use the elo rating system that aoc and chess (w some variation) uses?
- do we have any type of range for an estimate of the total aoc players currently playing multiplayer? Voobly and gameranger combined? Rm, dm, cs all included
- if we do have some answer for ques 2, how many players might we expect to add to the aoc community due to aoc hd's release and multiplayer on steam? Is there another rts game that has recently moved multiplayer to steam that we can compare #s with to get an estimate?
- people want to see aoc as an esport like sc2, as far as im concerned the only thing we need is sponsors to make this happen, by hosting lan tournaments and providing big prize money to attract players to the game. Is it realistic to think that the release of aoc hd and moving to steam for multiplayer can make this happen? Voobly has really stepped up the multiplayer gaming experience, compare it to zone's full rated rooms which dropped frequently, where you couldnt join a game already launched, how zone was filled w cheats etc. i think the aoc community should leave viobly only if the rewards outweigh all the benefits voobly has provided
