What is vanilla HD?There's quite a few people playing 'vanilla' HD. There's almost as many people as in Voobly MS, usually, I'd guess? (HD lobby doesn't show rooms that are full or in progress)
Forgotten numbers are a bit higher than Voobly's (in FE) but still close to zero.
Most HD players are single player (a mere ~17% of players got the '10 online games' achievement)
HD is awful Microsoft is awful and Steam is awful. You wonder why no players?

I was online for a day and the number of open rooms was -7-8 on average with 15xx-16xx players which translate to like 12xx voobly rate
Its even hard to get a game on AoC HD(decent one) and seems close to impossible on Forgotten. Guess its made for single player guys. Even if you have friends its only for the very low rated.

HD is questionable, but has certainly seen big improvements and will continue to do so.

You stay Steam is awful, yet there are 6 million people at any one time logged into Steam each day... It's a great client and games marketplace.
Microsoft is so awful yet you still play their game.
