46 teams signed so far (about 15 min before the end of signs-up), guess its less than expected by the organisers.
Lets say there will be 48 teams at the end, means 1 single round of qualification stage, and 16 teams really invited instead of 8 : 16 + (16 vs 16) = 32 teams, if u follow me 11
This means 16 teams will play only 2 or 3 games, isnt it too few ?
So why not to do groups of 6 teams (8 groups x 6 teams = 48) instead of this qualification stage, would take the same number of weeks (5) than expected with 2 rounds of qualif. stage + 3 matchs with the groups of 4 (current rules). Group stage rules then doesnt change, still the teams at place #1 and #2 of their group advance to final stage.
I think it could be more funny for many people ; if there is one or two groups with only 5 teams i dont think it is a problem (46 teams for now).
Just to launch the idea... 11
Edit : i could argue a bit more :
- with 6 teams per group not-so-bad 17xx 18xx 19xx teams will be able to face each other way more, and for places 3-4-5, and not only versus the two 2k++ "spectres" teams there will be in each group.
- top teams could let play the other guys of their roster when facing "less good" 17xx & 18xx teams, especially when its 3v3 so only 30% out of 10 guys are playing.
- looks like less like GML/top-players-only tourney, more open to 16xx-19xx, even if experts will still have their time in the tournament in later stages..
