I was 100% convinced in that theory, but after I decided to test, and I was very disapointed. But in the other hand, I was nicely suprised, because skirmishers are much better units than I thought U should defiantly do tests. U can inovate some test by urself. And post here so we can see.
Good test should satisfiy few things:
-be long enough: about 10-15 mins
-skirmishers should attack units which doesnt move ( if they move, missing is caused by lack of ballistics )
-when u start attacking with thumb ring, make sure time is synchronized with rec when u dont use thumb ring. U can use pause before game start so u can set skirmishers to wait certain time before u upgrade thumb.
-take care about thing u are testing: if u test how skirmishers are good vs buildings/farms, make sure the the test shows the same results on units.
-benefit of thumb ring would be noticeable only as how faster skirmishers kill units with thumb. We can talk about accuracy, but if its useless ( if doesnt give results on units ), its still not a benefit.
