hi all i am new here and a noob at AoC used to play a little about 5 years ago but am now getting back into it, I used to play DM but that doesn't seem to be active anymore so am going to focus on RM so any help will be great.
Hello
Welcome to aoczone. What do you know mean by inactive? Have you visited Voobly there are 90 people in DM lounge.
In relation with RM i can advise you: viewtopic.php?f=186&t=69712
Also watch Streams, Recorded games. Watch your own recorded games, find out mistakes and improve them. The most important, practise, practise. Dont play only 1vs1 hun arabia but play MR, water maps etc.
Thats not noob question. MR is map called "Megarandom". It is created to check player skills and adaptability. The good way how to get some interesting information is to search at forum.
I was watching a stream earlier and someone said best way to get better is play against the comp on hardest but i always thought that playing against human players helps you to get better
Computer isnt human. You cant clearly forcast what is human intend to. Apparently, bot helps you to improve micro. Find a human player at same lvl and practise with him MR for instance
Watching recorded games will help you most at this point. You just need to pick up the basic thinking of aoc and some build orders. Play some games, analyze how other better players play and try to figure out why they do certain things.
Dont play computer on hardest. Hardest computer is like playing against Charlie Gordon (the ******ed one) with a bunch of recources. Comps always delete a building if you shoot or stab a vil, even if its 99%. The only thing that makes them hard is the starting resources. Just play rated in voobly and dont worry about being 1300 or even 1200. You will lose a lot of your games early against the 15xx's and the 14xx's, but once you get down there you can play competitively against people of your own skill level.
Aside from that, watch recs and write down build orders for dark age, and write down what they do in feudal transition. Once you have master this, you can start watching their "build orders" in feudal up to castle, and when they get upgrades. I put BO's in quotes this time because feudal doesnt really have a build order. If he is massing archers and you only have scouts, you need to build skirms, or get more archers than him, so where you allocate villager gather will be different every time. Eventually you will understand why some games they put 15 farms early in feudal and some games only 6-7.
And as Bublifuk said dont just play 1v1 ara huns. You will get owned on water every time you play it, owned on LN, and owned with random civs. Also you wont know how to use civs in late game because you wont know their tech trees and bonuses well enough. MR is a good idea. (still mix in a bit of 1v1 ara tho, its very competetive even at lower levels).
