Note that this doesn't allow you to see any more than you would normally, it just looks nicer (in my opinion) because it makes it crystal clear which tiles are visible and which aren't.
Download (not sure where best to upload so multiple mirrors): http://temp-host.com/download.php?file=gg54al https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2rtDr ... sp=sharing
Instructions: replace your Data/BlkEdge.Dat and Data/TileEdge.Dat with the versions provided. For Voobly you may have to put them in a folder Mods/Unrounded and then enable mod Unrounded, I don't know.

Not only does this have a certain aesthetic appeal, it comes in handy when trying to tell which tiles are beach and which are water. This is the same noblend effect as in http://aoczone.net/viewtopic.php?p=404876, but without modifying empires2_x1.dat, so Voobly accepts it as just a visual mod. Download: http://temp-host.com/download.php?file=oh68yq https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2rtDr ... sp=sharing (same installation instructions)
How it works
These guys (SFera and Ykkrosh/zaynar) decoded and explained the formats of these files a few years ago, I basically just set all those bitmaps to black (though with TileEdge.Dat it's a bit more complicated). I could show my shitty scripts if anyone wants.
By the way if anyone knows what the formats of the other .dat files are, let me know.
