How would you rate the best civs in a death match game (1 vs 1) starting in the post imperial age. Rate the best civs for water maps and the best civis for land maps. Thanks
Its still the huns, even though they lost treadmill and tarkans are weak as ....., mainly cause they dont have to build houses thought incas are good 2
probably still huns are best, then goths are another good one, franks with new chivalry tech, chinese are good cos they start with 3 extra vils, spain, then maya has the extra vil (however they start housed)- on land.
On water, huns, spain are what i can think of.. and yea vikes since longboat trains faster than galleon but i have not much dm experience.
Incas get pop probably the second fastest after Huns, which is huge in DM. They don't really have anything obviously spamable though. What to make? Eagles?
Incas have good trash/counter units (kamayuk/slinger) if anything lol. None of their units can bulldoze through entire armies like a paladin or UU. I'd say Aztecs are pretty good too, cuz of their universal +15% military production but lose terribly to heavy cavalry (they have siege onagers vs archers).
This is like saying Vikings aren't the best water civ in AoC. This pretty much isn't up for debate. It's a provable fact that Huns are the best. They even destroy Goths and Mayans, which are supposedly the best civilizations to use against Huns in imperial age, and are pretty good themselves on DM.
Huns can use their starting scout to rush right away, they don't have to build houses, and thus can go straight to building stables/archery ranges for massive leads in military right away. Even Goths, with their super production bonus, still need to build houses, thus making them slower than Huns. Huns can make pure paladins against Goths, and outnumber their halberdiers enough to beat them into submission.
If this is michi or water, things might change, but normal settings for DM have pretty empty maps, so the first five minutes are super important.
Perhaps if you are playing on a larger map size, this might be true, but Huns will outnumber anyone, including Goths. A Goth population will be limited by the number of houses completed, no matter how fast their barracks are. A Hun player's only limit is how fast he can get those stables or archery ranges built.
If it's team DM, things also may be slightly different, as there may be a pocket player. Huns are still overall the best, though.
To make 40 Goth halberdiers, you need 9-10 houses, because some population will be taken up with villagers.
Huns don't need to build houses. For the first several minutes, they will have more population than anyone else. Ten paladins > ten halberdiers on DM; and when the paladins are increased to twenty before the Goths have passed fifteen, the gap widens.
If Goths get a good defense going, they can win a long DM; but Huns can usually rush an opponent to death right off.
