Walls have their usage IF the map permits it.
If Oasis, BF or whatever, ok.
But throwing up towers all around a walled village that has clicked ''castle age'' = gg.
I would not allow his eco to expand and would finish the game just by containing him.
It would simply last longer.
Best age is dark age. Because whether its any top level player or a low 15xx-1450+ player. all comes to same level at this age & do almost same things.
If I have to choose what is real beauty of the game, its meant to be POST IMP age.
Many people will disagree... I personally really love flushing, its really micro essence, especially civs when u combine archers/skirmishers and scouts such as huns are. Its simply lovely for people who like micro wars. I love booming part when in castle age u defense.. Its lovely also when u make vils and put them on farms. Defending eco...
But in Post IMP, when u make all kinds of researches, u really see horizontals of civs, and variability of types of units... u see how it ends and where creators of this game, have planed u to come and feel full shine of the game In my humble opinion, there is nothing more beautiful in the game when ur opponent and u have several castles and under them full arsenal of all kinds of units and researches, a lot of res and combat begins.
Its totally different than feudal. Here u meet new philosophies, new combat strategies... And even new micros, and maybe people widely think that post IMP is chaotic clash of countless numbers of units, in which game wins the player who is able to produce units faster... Its truth, its one of dominate factors... but there is a lot of micros too, and in fact that its harder to micro with more types of units, which are producing much faster.
I personally always wondered if DM would work if you had to start in just Imperial, and not Post Imperial. I had to conclude no with DM starting resources as they stand now, because unlike the first game (AGE OF EMPIRES) the super unit upgrades cost much less (Imagine Halberdiers costing.. say, 1300 food 1000 gold. Or paladins costing 2000 food 1500 gold. A bit different to game play)
...
Cysion and Userpatch, can you make a low resource for DM as well.. 2:5 ratio = 8000 food/wood 4000 gold 2000 stone
no other resource settings, because I just want this challenge in DM to see how this theoretical low resource setting would work. The game still has more than enough starts immediately but bottlenecks in units and buildings would come fast. If it starts before Post Imp, researching itself becomes a tougher decision.
And it's really lame that RM, Regicide, etc get a ton of fancy resource toggles and we are stuck with the same every time.
Edit wow this isnt the expansion topic lmao
reply to guy above me is below me
It's half about what you have when the enemy and you clash. But it's also about your objectives in the battles. If he wants to divert your forces with a tiny force of his own and then run amok on the other side of your town, it is definitely that outnumbering may have LOST you the game
