Are we talking about Longswords or general infantry?
Infantry is perfectly balanced from Dark Ages to Early Feud and from Early Imp to late Imp. Indeed if you got a set up eco, in early imp unique infantry floods can be deadly, either Berserks, Huskarls, EEW, and my favourite of them all...SAMURAIS (6 seconds each to create with conscription, cheap, if you do a 4 castle clump and just spam them backed by 2-3 trebs it's simply GG)
The problem is clearly Feudal and Castle for swordsmen infantry in general and can be easily tackled. If we don't want infantry to be better as they already are in Imp, just make these guys move 5% faster from M@A BUT reduce Squires to +5% speed, and make it cost 150f. Also reduce Iron Casting cost to 180f/150g (indispensable tech to make LS good to kill villagers, in 4 hits instead of 5), and POP, infantry balanced.
I'm not for +1 attack for 2HS though. Mayans and Huns need all but buffs, even anti-goth ones. Elite Plumed Archers already got +2 attack against Huskarls, and Huns can easily counter Huskarls with Heavy Cav
And predator needs to know that infantry always win if numbers are here, even in many recent pro games it is showed, eg. Samurais can brute force Arbalests when they outnumber them, same for Knight-line, a FU Elite Jaguar kills a FU Saracen Knight 1v1 for example.
The main quality of infantry is that REAL effective counters of them are few (Hand Cannoneers, Cataphracts, Jaguars, Plumed Archers/Elite with a small 1/2 damage bonus but that's all in AoC).
Infantry always win in sheer numbers, an infantry flood whatever that is in early IMP to an opponent still imping is in most of the cases deadly.
And VIks does go Champs or Berserks in Imp most frequently that you think Carlos. Just searched for the last +2k4 game with Viks (TheViper vs Poz_Tammy), and there were Champions as a main Imp force.

Here I agree with Melkor, infantry in imp is not really a problem. If it was me I'll give Elite infantry units and Champs 1.9 ROF instead of 2 (like AoC has done for Hussars upgrade) to make them a little bit spicy but that's optional
