I might agree here, though I prefer 1v1 (playing and watching).
Playing TGs can be a lot of fun (when playing with friends), but also a real disaster (when you happen to play with people that seem to be bad allies). Though, you could still improve your skills even then, trying to fight 1v2 (or more) as long as possible.
Watching TGs is what I personally don`t like that much. Maybe 2v2, but everything above that needs some extra involvement from the watcher (switching through the POVs all the time, not to miss where the action is), and as I tend to watch with "Fog of War" and "View lock" (with just occasional checking of the other player) I kind of miss all the action :P For those that like the "extra work" needed to enjoy the recorded game it can be really interesting, I guess, analyzing all the tactics and possibly witnessing much more possible outcomes and comebacks (than in 1v1).
With good commentary of the recorded game or live streams, switching through the current action hotspots and analyzing and discussing the current situation as it goes, I`d find TGs much better for watching.
I like to watch them both, but I only play team games. I like cooperating with people and having epic duke-outs, even though 3v3+ (for me) has a tad bit of delay making micro impossible, but still I have more fun in TGs than 1v1s, even though only 1v1s give me that unique sense of OHGODWHENARETHEYGOINGTOATTACK (that i hate and love)
