There's ambiguity in the name, for sure. In the startup screen, AoC has a button labelled "Custom Campaign", that's what was throwing me off. All good now, AoC works with scripts, my bad <blush>. Thanks for your reply!
But now that i have AoE2:DE, AoC just looks ...old ;-)
Thanks for the help getting custom campaigns available in AoE2:DE. That leaves my other problem - getting custom campaigns available in AoC. It's a new install off DVD on a new Win10 laptop, AoK first, then AoC, then Patch 1.4 so AoC will at least run in Win10. It runs ok (off the external DVD)...
Some progress! The answer to my question "Where does AoE2:DE look for custom scripts" is
C:/users/-username-/games/Age of Empires 2 DE/-long-numeric-string-/resources/_common/random-map-scripts/
I just kept putting a rms file with a different name in each of the many sub-folders named...
This takes me down a long and winding rabbit hole with no clear place to select "permission granted". Sigh - another round of my 25-year losing war with Bill Gates over "who owns my computer". The last battle i lost last month, when an unwanted Win10 update corrupted my MSi machine, which is why...
Clicking Standard Game gets a list of standard scenarios. For 10+ years i've clicked "Custom Scenario" to access, uh, my custom scenarios. There's a bunch that came-with, files like ES_***.rms, plus i've added my own, to the file "/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/random". I can see them all...
Worth a try, but sadly no luck.
Here's 2 screenshots of my re-installed AoC with UP1.4. First is after i start a multiplayer game, you can see the actual list of custom levels:
Second is Single Player mode, you can see the "Custom Campaign" button is muted, unresponsive to a click. I've never...
Thanks for replying.
I don't have Steam on this computer.
AoE2:DE was installed by Microsoft Play Store. The folder "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\" is present as a hidden folder which i cannot access even as administrator. The installation didn't even leave an icon on my desktop
I appreciate the...
Been playing AoC for over a decade, but now i have a big problem with a new install on a new laptop. All my custom scripts only show up in Multiplayer mode. In Single player the "Custom Campaign" button is grayed out. Been trying for a week and haven't found any help with this - hope someone...
I respect IP rights, but in this case i have already purchased the right to play this game, so i don't mind where it comes from. What i do mind, is what else might come with a pirate download. I don't trust random "free game" sites unless someone can vouch for their safety. Know any?
Update - i now have AoE2 Conquerors running off the DVD with UP1.4 installed. It will only run if i add the "NoStartup" option in the command line. Ok, fine.
But the "Custom Campaigns" button is grayed-out, just in Single Player mode. In Multiplayer mode all my custom campaigns show up just...
Partial success - but when i added UP 5.1, the "Custom Campaign" button is greyed out, even though i have a score of rms files in the "random" folder.
Anyone know a fix for a greyed-out "Custom Campaign" button?
Anyone know what files exactly UP 5.1 does its thing with?
Anyone know where i...
That might be the easiest way to go - heck, i've already bought it at least 3 times, what's one more? (grumble!) - if i can find out more about it. The M$ site is short on specifics - like, does it support map scripting? I've got a few scripts i've developed and like to play. And does it have...
Thanks for answering. Conquerors will run with an external optical drive, yes. I just don't want to have to lug an obsolete optical drive and the game disc around with my laptop all the time so i can play, when there are much more convenient digital solutions. I bought this Lenovo 5i when my...
Yeah, again - my apologies in advance.
Right up front: i already own AoE II and the Conquerors expansion, bought & paid for, at least twice.
I got help here about 6-7 years ago, now i've got the same problem again - getting AoE2 running on a new computer. This time it's a Lenovo laptop/Win10...
Hi all:
Trying to run AoE II Conquerors Expansion on a new Acer Aspire laptop, Win 10 updated to Ver.1803. The game apparently installed normally but clicking the desktop icon produces... nothing at all. No error message, nothing shows up on Task Manager, just "thanks for the click, bu-bye!"...
