I have no idea how Microsoft decides to allocate funding to tournaments (including how it decides what level of support is appropriate) but it appears as though it is tied into continuing support of the franchise in general and AoE2 DE in particular for ongoing sales of the games and DLC. To...
When the funding for S-tier tournaments vanishes in a few years, the complaints here and on the subreddit about not getting some desired (but hard to organize and less successful) format are going to look rich.
Not to say they don’t already look rich after everyone complained about Hera’s move...
The problem is if we already have legitimate reasons to doubt the integrity of the stated results, then there’s an increasing likelihood that even more serious problems like match-fixing, unfair prize distributions, etc. could be hidden. Would anyone involved in this do that? I’m certain they...
#1 Doesn’t really matter even though it will get the most attention and #2 seems like a fair decision. However, #3 being something rumored and only admitted later is a very significant problem if we can’t even trust that the broadcast results are the actual results. Even if it didn’t change the...
This is a suggestion that I think would be welcome in almost every tournament. A lot of the existing filler content just doesn’t interest me at all but a discussion between eliminated (or non-qualified) players and some casters about the sets would be a nice change.
https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2pro/ seems like a backup in case r/aoe2 gets too hostile. Glad my vote for the subreddit as the biggest drama of the year is proving itself.
One potential advantage for Memb, ironically, is that his YouTube views have historically been kind of poor so he may have less to lose by gambling on simulcasting. If he can pull in some people that way, which T90 isn’t doing for now, he could make up for some of the inevitable loss on Twitch.
You forgot the part in the scenario where the cop continued to defend their bad decision, suggesting they had not learned anything and would continue to act abusively.
People cling to any power they have, no matter how trivial it actually is. There’s a reason all the subreddits caved on their API protests after it became clear their mods would simply be replaced if they continued to protest.
I’d rather watch a year straight of Arabia matches than a tournament that is overloaded with gimmick maps (e.g. Golden Swamp) which provide at best superficial diversity in strategy. Drafting for mixed maps tournaments has also become extremely stale: do we really need to see more Japanese on...
I saw it posted on reddit: https://aoestats.io/tournaments/kotd5
Not too many surprises for good civs. Quite a few civs don‘t see any play and the frequently picked bad civilizations (>30% pick rate, ~40% or lower win rate) are kind of interesting: Hindustanis, Berbers, Dravidians, Mongols, and...
Yes, it’s absolutely been a great tournament. My idea wasn’t intended as criticism or even a suggestion for your tournaments, more something I think other tournament organizers could consider if the settings are favorable (e.g. someone casting recorded games) given the fact that the level has...
The 3-0s and 3-1s have still featured interesting games (made all the better by the incredible variety in co-casting). KoTD 5 has shown that 32 players is a good size for an AoE2 tournament given the current level. While I don’t think it’s Memb’s style for various reasons, I would like to see a...
I have to think Nili should be pleased with the viewership numbers and I think there’s a reason for the success: Da... no I don’t think that’s it. It’s the fact that Nili did a great job of getting the reddit audience interested. That’s a big (and presumably very cheap) win so it’s a lesson for...
I’d have to watch more casting involving Dash to say much about his qualities as a play by-play announcer in particular.
However, I’m not all that convinced that AoE2 casting needs traditional play-by-play announcing. That role, as far as I know, grew out of radio announcing, where it is...
If Nili wants to shout “Taiwan #1“ in the square every June 4, that’s fine as far as I’m concerned. However, he shouldn’t be doing that while interviewing the most important current member of the AoE2 community from the PRC because that sort of thing can put that person (and the community more...
In the abstract, I like that joke but that’s an incredible lack of awareness to make that joke publicly in front of the one person who could face repercussions for it and whose presence at LAN tournaments has most been in jeopardy.
T90 is the Coca-Cola Company
Memb is PepsiCo
Dave is the Dr. Pepper portion of the Keurig Dr. Pepper portfolio (often available with Coke or Pepsi)
Nili is RC Cola or, if you are being even more unfavorable, Moxie, but this works less well when you realize neither is an independent company
Dash...
