Maybe but it's the results that matter, Theviper can still be intrinsically the best but if he can't success in any S-tier tournament in 1 year, he's no n*1 for that year, simple as that.
if you look at what happened in 1 year in 1v1 S-tier tournaments from april 2020 to april 2021 and you got at least for me: N*1 lierrey, N*2 Hera, N*3 YO, N*4 TheViper, N*5 DauT, N*6 MBL. TheViper is no more N*1 for now.
Well, if you want to play the guessing game, it's not wrong to use all the informations you can get. why the hate ? Even if your assumptions can be wrong or not. But anyway like you nicely stated the best informations you could have is to know the players style and draft.
When was the semi finals played ? Saturday night until pretty late it seems according to T90. It didn't help Theviper who like to sleep early while it was afternoon for Hera. This + the map choices, It certainly helped hera. Maybe one of the reasons YO lost Jordan was the hours when he played...
the aoe2.net activity were pretty spot on, those who played during the tournament were all eliminated. but yes the chat thing is not a good indicator, iutshould have been jordan on stream just muting it while playing, i do that too.
there is many other ways to chill than playing aoe 2. And I think that yes some semi finalist players can play some random aoe 2 games instead of training but most of the time, they won't do it so seeing their activity can be a pretty good indicator even if not 100% accurate.
Ok but why would a semi finalist would plays random game instead of doing some preparation for HC4 semi final and final where he could won tons of moneys ?
Ok, if we look at players activity from aoe2.net, players who didn't made it until the semi finals are: Mr YO ( not 100% sure but he seems like he was cobra car and Theviper was edward lognshank) , Nicov, Mbl, Villese, Vivi, Vinchester, BacT, ACCM, Tatoh ( not 100% sure about tatoh).
So that...
Babaorum was playing on Gamerangers before DE if i recall correctly and he is top 100-top 50 on DE.
edit:wait, he played on gameranger a longtime before playing on voobly in fact.
