Polls are meaningless; while I don't agree with some of the reasoning behind the decision, it is good for everyone to understand that this isn't a democracy. The moderators and admins get the final say.
Devil's advocate: I'd imagine that "previous achievements" were also taken into account when setting up the brackets. (Which could have potentially changed this specific bracket).
I'm fairly sure the poll is just to gauge the community's reaction, it has no bearing on the decision and it can't be used as reasoning either.
If the above statement is true I see no motive for poll manipulation.
